Picky Eaters

picky eatersPicky eating is something that many children will go through. The key is knowing when there is a problem, when it is appropriate to take action and how. Finding the right strategy for each individual child and their family is the best approach.

Aviva works with clients located across Canada and internationally via phone or Skype sessions.

Support for Parents and their Picky Eaters

How does it work?

Aviva's approach to dealing with picky eaters is not one-size-fits-all. Her strategies and plans are customized to suit the needs of your child and your family.

  • Aviva's approach is parent-centred, which means she works with parents to support both the child AND the parents and a healthy feeding relationship. Children are typically not present at the consultations, however in certain circumstances, or when dealing with older children, Aviva may request that the child attend along with the parent at a later time.
  • The initial consultation will involve a detailed intake of your child's feeding history, growth, current diet and feeding/mealtime challenges. Your nutritional and feeding concerns will be discussed and initial recommendation and strategies will be given. Suggestions for nutritional supplements, specific meal and snack ideas as well as kid-friendly recipes are also given, however this does not always happen in great detail at the initial session. There are basic foundations that first need to be built in order to increase your child's acceptance of these new foods.
  • A follow up session will typically take place in the next 4-6 weeks, allowing time for you to begin implementing the strategies. Follow up sessions are essential for monitoring your child's progress and making the necessary adjustments to your plan. Follow up sessions offer continued support for parents and are a great opportunity to address any challenges you may be experiencing. While follow up sessions are certainly not required, they play an important role in your continued success and the success of your child in this process.

How many sessions will I need?

This depends on a number of factors including the age of the child and the nature of the feeding challenges. Some parents and children are able to adapt to the changes fairly easily, while others struggle with the process. If you are seeing consistent progress and have quickly reached your goals, then 1-2 sessions may be sufficient. If the issues are more complex, ongoing support may be what your family needs.

Initial consultation - $250

Follow up sessions - $150
